How to Support H.O.O.D. Gyrls

We welcome volunteers and donors to participate in our monthly H.O.O.D. Kit donation and assembly opportunities.

H.O.O.D. Kits provide teenage gyrls with the supplies needed to take care of their hygiene, including soaps, feminine hygiene products, and more.

Additionally, we could always use volunteers in assisting with our annual She’s So H.O.O.D. Award Show, which would include publicizing the event on social media, as well as in-person opportunities to help with the coordination and execution of the event.

Make a donation.

Your donation ensures Chicago gyrls grow and thrive with the reproductive health resources and services they deserve.

Ways to engage and support

  • H.O.O.D. Kits

Our H.O.O.D. Kit program provides teenage gyrls with the supplies needed to take care of their hygiene. Each kit includes soap, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, a toothbrush, period products, shampoo, conditioner, lip gloss, a washcloth, snacks, and a mask. In 2022, Gyrls in the H.O.O.D. served over 600 gyrls with H.O.O.D. Kits. These kits are an excellent way to start conversations with gyrls in the community as we build rapport with them during that critical first impression they have with our program staff.

  • Christmas in the H.O.O.D.

Each holiday season, we host a special sponsorship program to ensure that gyrls in need throughout the city of Chicago have essential, well-fitting winter clothes. We also create special seasonal H.O.O.D. Kits with extra items to make the season special for gyrls.

  • H.O.O.D. Headquarters

The Gyrls In The H.O.O.D. Reproductive Health Services Center at 605 E. 71st Greater Grand Crossing is a safe space for gyrls to access resources, education and quality, compassionate care.

  • Evening with the H.O.O.D.

We provide opportunities for recreation and leisure for gyrls in our programs, such as our “Evening With The H.O.O.D” event that connects girls with a night of luxurious self-care and cultural experiences.

  • Young Parents Diaper Giveaways

As part of our commitment to reproductive health, we distribute free diapers, wipes, and other healthcare items to parents with young children.

  • Book us for a Workshop or Speaking Engagement

Our staff and trained volunteers are equipped to deliver workshops and speak at events on topics such as reproductive health justice and period poverty.

  • Volunteer

Volunteers like you are essential for our programs and resource distribution events—get in touch today to see what we have planned in the next few months!
