Our Programs and Services

  • H.O.O.D. Kits

Gyrls have the right to experience their periods with dignity. H.O.O.D. Kits provide teenage gyrls with the supplies needed to take care of their hygiene, including soaps, feminine hygiene products, and more.

  • H.O.O.D. Closet

H.O.O.D. Closet is a weekly community closet giveaway, where gyrls in need can “shop” for free clothing, shoes, and household items. The clothing provided is a mix of new and gently used items, with attendees allowed to pick three items from each rack, a pair of shoes, and some personal hygiene items. The initiative aims to support the community, particularly single mothers, and to make sure people feel valued and not forgotten.

  • Degrees B4™ Diapers

Degrees B4 Diapers is a 3-month course that provides free comprehensive, medically accurate, age appropriate, reproductive health education to adolescent gyrls in addition to post-secondary guidance. Upon completion gyrls are empowered to make informed and responsible choices about their health and higher learning pursuits.

  • H.O.O.D. House

H.O.O.D. House serves gyrls facing homelessness or using survival sex as the means to simply stay alive. Through H.O.O.D. House, we provide housing, essential supplies, and social and mental health resources for a gyrl (and her children, if she is a mother) for one year.

Sorry, we are not accepting applications at this time.

  • She’s So H.O.O.D. Award Show

Our She’s So H.O.O.D. Award Show recognizes and rewards teen gyrls who are excelling despite their circumstances and challenges. Gyrls in the H.O.O.D. works with local schools and community-based organizations to select nominees aged 13–19 residing in Chicagoland, culminating in an award ceremony where the winners are highlighted and showcased on our digital media channels and in local Chicago media outlets.
